type='text'>The Truth About How to Change Your Limiting Beliefs

As I nearly complete the 2nd edition of "Master the Power of Your Attitudes" I'm clear the most critical aspect we all need to implement is to improve our limiting beliefs.

It's not rocket science - it's well known and well researched, but still we don't do the doing!

We were programmed with our limiting beliefs and also our freeing beliefs from an early age. They occurred through lengthy repetition and practice.

By the time we were young adults - it was done. We now had a mixed set of beliefs that both help and hinder us. And, notably, we had lived long enough to have them all proven "true" in our experience.

Now even when we intellectually and knowingly receive a better "truth", if it's opposite to, or resticted by, an existing belief, however wrong, then we are stuck with the old one. And our life doesn't change, even though we want it to.

In all the study I've done over all the years, all the experience I've had in both positive and negative belief programming spanning normal everyday living, special military and law-enforcement practices and even my spiritual practices - all lead to this truth - To improve your limiting beliefs, you must repeatedly powerfully positively in your own adult voice reprogram your existing beliefs with something better.

There are no shortcuts. Look, if it took you 18 years to learn and have proven to you that your family is welfare dependent, do you really think a magic three days of repeating that you are wealthy amd independant will fix your limiting belief?

Malcolm Gladwell, in his book Outliers, showed that it takes 10,000 hours of practice to become a global master at anything.

If you lived in a welfare dependant family for 18 years, and lets say that you spent 12 hours a day awake and in the family, listening, watching talking and experiencing what it's like to be welfare dependent and actually surviving and even having some happy moments - well that's 12X18X365 hours = 78,880 hours! 7 times what's needed to become a global master!

To change our limiting beliefs we need to use every tool we can and be determined, committed and never give up.

The good news is that there is a never ending list of people no smarter than you who did exactly that.

How to do that and what tools we can use to really power up our belief improvement is what I focus on in the 2nd edition of "Master the Power of Your Attitudes"

I think that never before have we needed this more than now,as we enter the most precarious, uncertain and yet promising times ahead.

Right now though this is what you can do: -

1. Pick one limiting belief that really holds you back. Write down exactly what it is e.g. "I can't earn or save enough money to be comfortable."
2. Write down the belief you'd rather have, ensuring that you describe not only your ability but your feelings about it and write it in the present tense e.g. "I'm really grateful and joyous that I'm receiving and saving all the money I desire and more, so that I'm helping others too whilst I remain really comfortable."
3. Collect pictures and images of the things you'll have that demonstrate your achievement of your desire e.g. the house, the car, the clothes etc.
4. Make a vision board or computer/ipod etc screen of your images and put it where you'll see it every day most of the time.
5. Make a track (MP3 etc) of your voice saying the content of 2 above in time with Bach style music (4 beat)and loop it. Play it as you awaken, through the day when it's safe and appropriate (meal breaks etc), just before sleep and through your sleep.
6. Keep a daily journal of your progress, noting what you do every day to embed the belief of your choice. Record your honest feelings - in the beginng you'll notice not much happening, then at some time (different for everyone) you'll notice improvement - build upon that. Also note the setbacks and stumbles - there'll be those too.
7. Never give up, because all those who succeeded before you never gave up either. Giving up is failing.
8. Do not expect rapid results, even though it could happen. Instead be clear you are in it for the long haul.
9. Remember that if you don't stick to it, nothing will change.
10. Realise you have a choice - stick and achieve, or give up and fail. And the time it takes is no longer important.

To your success

Your Thoughts Create Your Things

There is an immutable reality that we can use in our life, everyday. How much of what we have do we really need? Give the difference away - better than selling it.

Secondly, how else can we make our life simpler? What do we do, habitually, that makes our life more complex than it needs to be? Once we've got a habit, we don't consider whether it's helpful or not anymore. Check your habits and improve them.

Thirdly, in the light of today's world, what would you love doing everyday, that's of value to others. Would you love it enough to become an expert at it? Now there's a new positive direction you could consider.

Until next time!

A Game That Will Change Your Life

This game will cost you nothing - nada - zip!

The name of the game is Better Thoughts.

Just look at this question and notice your thoughts - "What are the best things to think about right now?"

Notice your answer.

Do it again. I admit I was slightly stressed with my own workload and uncharacteristically grumpy.

We turned from Rokeby Road Subiaco, into Thomas Street, right in front of the entrance to the majestic Kings Park.

As I was turning I spotted five black cockatoos about to land in the huge eucalyptus tree that dominates the entrance. Nothing new about that - the Park is full of black cockatoos, the white tailed variety.

Just as they flared their wings and tails to land, they flashed brilliant fire red tail feathers at me. Red tailed black cockatoos!

Now I haven't seen them in the metro area for many years now. What a delight. I excitedly pointed them out to Wendy. I was gushing with enthusiasm and delight for what I'd just seen.

My grumpy attitude altered immediately to joy and gratefulness - they made my day!

Later I pondered the event and realised that I made my day, because it wasn't the cockatoos that did it, it was my thoughts and feelings about having seen the cockatoos.

I could just as easily have altered my grumpiness by being joyful and grateful for simply being alive and healthy.

Thank you Nature for being there for me!

Until next time.
Imagine that something or someone has upset you and you are now feeling either angry or hurt, or both.
You can’t seem to let go of it – you keep wondering “Why?” or “What if?” or “If only..”

You might even be re-running the incident over and over in your mind.

In this state, it’s like being a rabbit or kangaroo caught in headlights – you can’t seem to move from where you are. It affects your body, not only your mind. It stops you from being effective at whatever else you’d rather be doing.

OK, we’ve set the scene; you can relate to this, can't you?

Now choose an event in your life that is like this. Got it? So let’s make the rapid change.

Step One – Ask yourself this question: -
Exactly what facts happened to cause this?
Make sure you answer in terms of the facts only, not your assumptions and presumptions or opinion.

Step Two – Ask yourself this question: -
Regarding those facts, what is the best possible truthful meaning available from them, which still fits the facts?
Allow yourself to imagine the best possibility.

Step Three – Ask yourself this question: -
In a year from now, will this event still matter?
Imagine you are looking at the event a year from now.

Step Four - Ask yourself this question: -
Regardless of this event, what do I have in my life that I’m extremely grateful for?
Choose 3 different and most important aspects of your life that you’re glad are present in your life, and then answer this “Why are you glad/grateful for them being in your life?”

Step Five – Finally, take three deep breaths and answer this question: -
What’s the most positive and useful thought I can have right now?

See that your attitude has changed to being positive and useful, and that now you can take action that is much more useful to you.

Until next time.

The Global Dilemma - Effective Collaboration is the Only Solution

Financial crisis, climate change, loss of diversity of life forms, population pressure, food shortages, disease, war/terrorism, global dysfunction in health, justice and education systems, religious-political cultural conflicts – all relentlessly driven into our psyche by the media.

We fixate on these issues and try, piece by piece, to solve them, usually after the ‘eleventh hour’. Just like other ‘ailments’ we focus on relieving symptoms, not curing the cause.

The cause is, very bluntly, unsustainable population growth and unsustainable pursuit of profit growth. They feed one another and threaten life on and of the planet.

Our various religious-political cultures are in denial of the cause. Instead we argue and posture, always believing our ideas are the superior, whilst secretly plotting to gain an advantage over others, hidden in diplomatic double-talk.

Our differing staunch cultural views hinder our ability to collaborate.

Yet when we share a common threat we are capable of accepting our differences and collaborate to focus on the threat. History has demonstrated this capacity.

When we effectively collaborate, we always achieve amazing results. We network our skills and knowledge and innovate to create solutions.

What history hasn’t demonstrated is how we can collaborate on the newer issues of unsustainable population growth and unsustainable pursuit of profit growth – the cause of our environmental threats and financial crisis. These two pressures have not occurred in recorded history at their current levels.

Never before have we needed to collaborate more.

The media do not know how to communicate this possibility. They are obsessed with reporting the gory immediate past and ‘who’s to blame’. They do not investigate and report on the value of collaboration.

Yet there exists pockets of splendid collaboration, aided recently by the capability of the internet, but stemming from like-minded communities of people from all cultures..

Effective collaborators display four dominant characteristics – shared goals, outstanding attitudes, outstanding leadership, and the resulting outstanding teamwork.

Imagine if we could generate outstanding attitudes, unimpeded by powerful limiting beliefs, feeling and thoughts; and knew how to deliver outstanding leadership behaviour; and could work together to be an outstanding team of all humanity.

Effective collaboration requires each collaborator to share an intention and put aside fears, habits and ignorance, accept our differences and authentically work together in a spirit of honour and equity.

We all wish this could happen, but our fears, habits and ignorance deny us the courage to act accordingly, until after the eleventh hour is well past. However, this time there is a point of no return. It will be upon us sooner than we think.

So, will we effectively collaborate? When?

Until (I trust) next time!

Choose Now!

As you read this blog, please get out your best pen and a fine blank piece of paper or open a new page in your journal.

Right now, write down your most desirable goal to achieve by the end of this month. What outcomes do you think that could produce for you?

Now imagine that you have a one and a half hour audio program that will show you how to get really good at this.

Wouldn't it be worth the one and a half hour investment for a life changing skill that isn't full of hype and is so easy to understand and actually do, and where you'll experience immediate benefits?

This program arises from my Attitudinal Competence program, which became a vital skill for the covert operators I used to train.

If this interests you, email me.

Best wishes,

A Personal Test of My Attitude

It's been a while since my last blog! I've been focussed forming the not-for-profit organisation GAFACALD to deliver service to those who can't usually access it or afford it.(see http://www.daviddeane-spread.com/gafacald.html).

Recently, one of my long term clients, a high profile CEO, became the target of a disgruntled employee and a union. I received a call from a person whose voice I recognised as an employee of my client, but who claimed to be an "investigative journalist". The caller asked me questions about myself then told me that the real target was the CEO of a government agency. I refused to answer any questions about any of my clients.

They sought to discredit the CEO by attacking the CEO's use of my services, complaining that I, as a former bankrupt (I went bankrupt for $6million in 1990), and without university degrees was being paid $500 per hour to "gee up the staff". The complaint was also that I had been mentioned negatively in the NSW parliament in 1996, where a politician had responded to a question in an unsubstantiated derogatory and defensive manner whilst protected by parliamentary privelege.

A Western Australian Sunday newspaper noted for its sensationalism and scant regard for accuracy carried the complaint in the form of an expose by a journalist, attacking the CEO and with me being "collateral damage". At the time the union was engaged in a protracted employee agreement negotiation with the client.

When I saw the article I was dismayed. The CEO didn't deserve the attack, having guided the organisation through major reform and creation of high value to the stakeholders (the people of Western Australia).

Also, whilst my client knew the truth, I wondered how my other clients would react.

Instead of reacting myself and fighting back, I decided to wait and see how things turned out.

When visiting clients at this time I asked my clients if they'd seen the article. Many hadn't, saying they don't value the particular paper.

Within a fortnight of the article appearing I had been contacted by all of my clients who unanimously remained in support of me, saying they already knew most of the facts (I use my experiences in my content) and valued my service and would continue to engage me.

The targetted CEO provided a fully supportive corrective report to the relevant government minister and I'm told, since I haven't read it, the paper later published an update correcting some of the previous report.

What I had reinforced to me through this experience is the importance of maintaining your best attitude, no matter what is happening.

I'm grateful for the experience, as it tested my attitude and confirmed how I'm regarded by my clients.

I also wish people would use honourable means for furthering their cause and that we could all learn to care more for people we don't even know.

Until next time, think well, feel well and stay well.

The Healing Power of Nature

Recently I spent 8 days in the outback with a friend. Just us, our 4WD, simple but great food, water, wine and our swags.

No tents, no electronics, no kitchen sink or bathtub.

We went out east past Sandstone, tracked north into the Pilbara, to Mt Augustus (biggest rock on planet), down in to the Gascoyne and finally ended up for a bath at Kalbarri before making the regretful trip back to Perth.

The highlight of the journey (there were amazing occurrences all through) was the two days we spent in the dry Thirty Three Mile River (a tributary of the Gascoyne). We wouldn't recommend the practice of camping in a dry river bed unless very experienced with the weather patterns - which we are.

Clean washed river sand is a great swag mattress. Corridored by majestic ghost gums, blessed with blue sky and warm sun, we were entertained by an abundant variety of amazing birdlife whose song, antics and curiosity brought healing and recuperation to us.

The silent evenings were punctuated by mopokes and boobooks. The stars performed for us.

The first Kalbarri hospitality vendor we asked for rooms turned us away. We looked and smelt like nomads making first contact with civilization! A backpacker establishment let us in and we cleaned up and went to the Kalbarri pub.

We lasted a few drinks and meal and then had to get away from the noise and crowd.

I brought back to Perth and my family a renewed sense of tranquility and focus, healed by the power of nature!

How grateful I am with what we have available to us.

Best wishes to you.

Generating Feeling

I know you've experienced how powerful we humans are, and how sometimes we can feel so moved by what others say and do for us.

Let's experiment with that now.

Just watch the two video pieces in the order I have them below (click on the first link, watch it and then click on the second and watch it).

Having done that please reflect on how they made you feel and, if it's OK with you, let me know what happened for you.

Here's the first: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ozDh4NQveJs

Here's the second: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VI-7K4H13IA

Enjoy!!!!

Best wishes

Choose Your Thoughts Carefully

I was interviewed on Western Australia's Channel 31 recently - to give participants the core skills in mastering their attitudes (increasing their attitudinal competence or "Att-C") and also to capture the event on film to create a DVD to help others to benefit from the learning.

You'll not be asked to do anything unusual like role play, address the group, or reveal personal information on camera. You'll just be part of a normal workshop/seminar.

My colleague Jennifer Gherardi, an award winning documentary producer and director based in Margaret River, will be in charge of filming the workshop.

If you wish to particpate in the workshop at Margaret River on Saturday July 7th (remember it's only $75 for a benefit that usually costs $750), just book in with either Jennifer Gherardi at jagfilms@westnet.com.au or my business manager Bridget Standen at bridgetstanden@westnet.com.au

Those of you who attend will not only get the comprehensive manual, but also a copy of the finished DVD for the entry price, in appreciation for your attendance. You'll also be requested to sign permission to be filmed at the event.

I look forward to seeing you there. If you have any questions please feel free to email me at david@daviddeane-spread.com

I'm committed for Att-C to become a skill that people from teenagers onwards can readily use to improve their lives generally and to deal with specific issues. The workshops and DVD, this blog,one-on-one coaching and my manual on Att-C are the ways I deliver on my commitment.

My clients and I have found that using the Att-C process works every time, so I'm keen for as many people to learn it as possible.

For more information on Attitudinal Competence (Att-C) go to http://www.daviddeane-spread.com/attitudinalcompetence1.htm

For more information on me go to
http://www.daviddeane-spread.com/aboutdavid.html

Remember, what happens doesn't matter as much as your attitude about what happens!

Bye for now

David
